Just because it's Thursday... and I made beignets!

I do not really have very much to write about today, but in the spirit of keeping up, here is a post!

Today is Thursday, and on top of working 5 hours and the restaurant and 5 at the library (where I am right now, in fact), I made beignets :) Beignets are pretty much just fried dough that puffs up into little pockets. They are famously made in the French Quarter in New Orleans, so I actually made the dough last Friday for the Mardis Gras party, froze it, and then used our frier at work to fry them.

Last week, I learned how amazing it is to use Crisco to fry with instead of just oil. When you are finished, you just let it set until it hardens, and then scoop it out! No worrying about how to dispose of the oil! However, it is even easier to just use the deep frier at the restaurant that you work at and let someone else worry about all that ;)

In other news, Percy Jackson-stray cat has invited at least 3 friends to come eat out of the food that my roommates feed him. There is a cat that looks like a racoon. The black cat is HUGE-the most muscular cat I have EVER seen... and his name is Sugar. My favorite is one that has many names. We think he might be Percy Jackson's boyfriend (we don't actually know whether Percy Jackson is a boy or a girl). For now, we call this cat OC, which is short for OneEyeNoTailCyclops. But even though I have a favorite, I am sticking to my guns... "I don't feed stray cats." If these cats ever become real pets (which entails shots, spay/neuter, and flea/tick treatment), then we'll see. But for now, we have at least four feral cats that think they live at our house, too.
